R / L indicate right-hand and left-hand versions. Asterisks in insert codes are placeholders; confirm the full designation, chipbreaker, nose radius and grade before ordering.
Included inserts and parts are subject to the confirmed quotation.
Match The Toolholder
To Your Application
Start with the shank size, then check the insert and clamping setup. Consider the workpiece and machine together to select a compatible combination.
Turning Profile And Clearance
Select for longitudinal external turning. With a 75° entering angle, check head clearance and access at square shoulders, faces and profile transitions. Do not assume the same shoulder access as a 90° toolholder.
Shank Size And Overhang
Check the tool post capacity, cutting-edge centre height and available space. Keep overhang as short as the operation allows and clamp the shank securely.
Insert Size And Workpiece Material
Check compatibility with CN**1204**, CN**1606** or CN**1906**. Use the workpiece material, hardness and roughing or finishing requirements to select the insert grade, chipbreaker and nose radius.
Clamping And Maintenance
Clean the insert and shim seating surfaces before replacement. Inspect the clamp, pin and screw, and follow the applicable assembly method and tightening torque.
Selection FAQs
Check compatibility and supply details before ordering.
Is CN**1204** a complete insert order code?
No. This code identifies the insert series and size; the asterisks stand for unspecified parts of the designation. Confirm the complete insert code, nose radius, chipbreaker and grade for your material and application before ordering.
How do I choose right-hand or left-hand?
Check the tool post position, workpiece setup and actual feed direction. Spindle rotation alone is not enough to choose the hand. If unsure, share a photo of the turret or tool post and a workpiece drawing for selection support.
Which workpiece materials can I machine?
The toolholder holds the specified insert sizes. Material suitability depends on the insert grade, chipbreaker, cutting parameters and machine setup. Share the workpiece material, hardness and machining requirements so the insert can be selected accordingly.
Are inserts, shims and clamps included?
The table identifies compatible parts for selection and maintenance. The included inserts, shims, pins, clamps, screws and wrenches are subject to the confirmed quotation. Spare parts can also be quoted with your inquiry.
